Tre-X Series

E-mail Print
Hey Triads,
If you are looking for something different next season why not consider competing in some of the Tre-x Series - www.tre-x.com.au

These off road triathlons are heaps of fun with courses located within an hour of Brisbane.   The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with numerous  category and random draw prizes up for grabs. The only extra piece of equipment that you need is a mountain bike (nothing special).

If you are curious feel free to email the club account with any questions or post questions in the forum.  The Tre-X newsletter is below with the free information nights coming up in October.  The organisers also have course familiarisation days before the events so that you can experience the mountain bike course first hand.

Hope to see you there.

Nina

DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT FOR TRAIL RUNNING?

“You don’t ride your road bike on trails
so why would you use your road shoes for trail running?”.

Trail running can be anything from jogging along flat sand roads to long and grueling competitions in virgin terrain. On the way you could encounter forest paths and hiking trails, as well as rocky pathways, rough terrain, and slopes. Difficult conditions also put tough demands on exercise equipment.

Salomon trail running shoes are specifically designed to withstand the variable and unpredictable conditions you will encounter in the Salomon Tre-X series and your training.  A trail shoe must be more stable, protective and provide better grip, shock absorption and durability all resulting in a safer, more enjoyable run.

Properties of a good  trail running shoe include:

  • Good grip: The lugs cling to dry and soft surfaces, and the rubber compound retains its grip in slippery conditions.
  • Low profile: put the foot closer to the surface and stabilize the stride
  • Sturdy and durable upper: withstanding tough use and scratches from the outside.
  • Protective midsole: It prevents sharp stones and branches from pressing on the sole of the foot
  • Reinforced toe cap: It prevents toes from hitting rocks and other obstacles.
  • Robust lacing that can be concealed so it does not get caught in branches and twigs
  • Other properties such as good fit, sturdy build, good control, shock absorption and a good feel during running.
Salomon XT WINGS

Salomon XT WINGS  suit many different surfaces .They are ideal for sand roads but also work well in the forest and even on asphalt. The Contagrip sole ensures a good  grip on slippery surfaces, while the ACS structure provides cushioning and efficiently controls the stride.

Salomon XT Whisper
Salomon XT WHISPER is a distinctive shoe in the Salomon trail running range, providing, for the first time ever, a design that is specific to a woman’s body. This lightweight, comfortable shoe transitions easily from the road to light trails. For women who want a softer ride and lighter weight.
Salomon XA PRO 3D ULTRA

Salomon XA PRO 3 D ULTRA  keep the feet close to the ground, ensuring a safe stride even on demanding surfaces. The sturdy frame provides protection against external impact and torsion.  Thanks to high-quality materials and dual meshing, the shoe works well under demanding conditions.

Salomon SPEEDCROSS
Salomon SPEEDCROSS  is designed for fast paced running  under demanding conditions. A light and rolling chassis makes the shoe extremely fast. Rugged Contagrip outsole ensures excellent grip even on slippery surfaces.

Hi Triads

The club is going to support a Teva Adventure Race late in the year and we would love to see more giving this fun, yet challenging event a go.  http://www.tevaadventureseries.com/

In working towards this event there are a few things we suggest you try:

MOUNTAIN BIKING
1.  The Riders Club (linked to TC's Bike Barr)
Has sessions every Tuesday morning at Gap Creek.  Meet at the park entry on Greenford Street Chapel Hill at 6am (during summer).  They have groups to cater for all levels

2.  Chain Gang
CG have club rides on Sundays at 330pm from the Gap Creek Picnic area, these are free to anyone. Chris has also offered to conduct clinics for members any morning that suits from 6am for $10 per head for a 1.5 hour session.

NAVIGATION
This is both on foot and mountain bike.
Orienteering Queensland (OQ) has about 3 orienteering events per week.  Visit the 'events' section of their website to see when the next event suits you - www.oq.asn.au.  The Triad Club is a member of Orienteering Queensland so Triad members can enter OQ events at the discounted rate.  Most events cost $5-$10 to enter (great value!)

There are many different types of Orienteering events.  If you are starting out I would strongly suggest the following events:

1. Park Orienteering (Park 0)
These are held in parks as opposed to in the bush so the terrain is more open and easier to find the hidden control points.  You don't really need a compass for this style of event and you can do it with a friend if you prefer.

Upcoming Park O Events - all starting at 3.30pm and involve about 30mins of running (depending on whether you get lost:)
Sat 14 Southbank - look for signs near the Piazza
Sat 21 UQ - meet in Great Court
Sat 28 Griffith Uni

2.  Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO)
There is a Come N Try It event at Petrie on March 22.  There is only one of these for the year so go along and learn some great skills from very experienced navigators.  A fancy bike is not required.  The flyer has been posted in the Latest News section of the website.

Hope this inspires some of you thinking about giving adventure racing a go.

Nina
